The Nissan Pathfinder sank to the bottom of Cars.com’s most recent 3-Row SUV Challenge due to several misses, such as an ancient infotainment system, unrefined powertrain and cramped third row. It looks like an update for 2026 will fix one of those issues: Nissan is debuting a revised version of the three-row crossover at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show with a large, modern infotainment system with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with revised exterior styling and more premium features.
If you’re paying a premium for a hybrid powertrain on your SUV, you almost certainly want to know if it delivers on its promises with regard to fuel economy — or, in the case of the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid, overdelivers. To determine whether the Forester Hybrid can achieve its 35 mpg rating for combined city and highway driving in real-world driving, Cars.com editors took it on a standardized 200-mile test loop, traversing major highways, two-lane rural roads and suburban stop-and-go traffic. The results — as reported in our most popular news article of the past week — were more than enough to put the compact all-wheel-drive SUV in contention with top competitors from Honda and Toyota with better EPA estimates.
The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas is a car geek’s fever dream. It’s technically just a trade show, but aftermarket companies manufacturing everything from car covers and vinyl wraps to drivetrain and suspension parts bring in wild custom builds to draw attention to their wares, packing the Las Vegas Convention Center with 4.6 million square feet of jaw-dropping one-off vehicles of all types. There are classics and muscle cars, off-roaders and lowriders, and every flavor of modified Japanese and European import you can imagine — but rarely are any for sale.
One of the main reasons Cars.com bought a TRD Off-Road version of the redesigned 2025 Toyota 4Runner was to take it off-road and see how it performs. We recently did just that at Holly Oaks ORV Park in Michigan, doing some higher-speed dirt-road driving as well as low-speed sand crawling.
It seems downright quaint to think that the average price of a new car in 2012 exceeded $30,000 for the first time considering the average price of a new car is now around $50,000. The good news: That’s just an average, factoring in cars of all sizes, body styles and levels of luxuriousness, and driven largely by Americans’ insatiable appetite for SUVs. Although it may seem sad to celebrate still being able to pick up a new ride for a price that represented the highest-ever average 13 years ago, save yourself 20 grand and shop our compilation of best new cars for $30,000 or less — one of Cars.com’s most popular news articles of the past week.
